Hard Workers!

Here are some hard working students.  Adrian, Evie, and Hayden all did extra work at school and at home.  Adrian retold some of his favorite Bible stories all on his own at home.  Evie worked at home to put her sight words in groups according to their vowel sounds.  Hayden wrote a story in his spare time at school.  All three of these students did these things all on their own without being asked.  Wow!!

Did you notice it's hat day in our room? :)

Triple Fun!

These three girls - Evie, Ramsie, and Olivia - wrote a story together.  It's called, "Keli and the Car."  It is a very exciting story about a girl who runs into an apple tree with her mother's car.  Guess what happens at the end?  They make apple pie!

Classroom Authors!

Many students from our classroom are writing their own books in their spare time.  Here are some great examples below!

Maddee and Samantha wrote stories.  Maddee wrote a story called, "Kelchi Finds a Friend."  Her story is about Ms. Bennett's pets, Kelchi and Colter.  Samantha and Maddee wrote a great team story together called, "Colter Got Lost."  This story is about Ms. Bennett and Colter going on a walk.  Colter gets lost!  Both of these stories are great!

Hailey and Nevaeh wrote a great team story together called, Do You Have a Pet?"  In the story, they ask each other if they have various pets.  What a creative story!

Creative Homework

Maxx made a creative homework page to practice his sight words.  He made a chart of flip up words.  Good job, Maxx!

Learning About the Hospital!

On Tuesday, April 23 our class went on a field trip to the Albert Lea hospital.  We learned about what it's like to be admitted to the hospital.  We also learned about the inside of the human body - the bones and organs.  After our learning time, we were taken around varous parts of the hospital.  We saw an urgent care room, the baby room (and a new baby!), the lab, and the inside of an ambulance.  We even got to see what blood looks like under a microscope.  It was a great learning time for the whole class!
Jose is our pretend patient to be admitted to the hospital.
Cayden and Taylor are his pretend mom and dad.

Our patient, Jose, has his blood pressure taken.

Dr. Brenden will be Jose's surgeon!

We saw what the inside of our body looks like - even the heart!

This a skelleton.  Do you know how many bones we have in our bodies?

Alex looks at blood under a microscope.
Do you know what the little purple platelets do for us?

A paramedic tells us about his ambulance.

Layne gets his EEG taken.  Do you think his heart is beating?

Here is Layne's EEG.  Yes, his heart is beating!

Mmmm, Mmmmm, Good!

The Jaguar reading group, Talan, Taylor, Faith, and Carson, read a book called, "The Wheat We Eat."  They learned that some cereals are made from wheat.  Bread is made from wheat.  Pasta is made from wheat.  We got some bread dough, watched it raise all day, and then baked it.  We made enough bread for the whole class.  The best part was eating it!  Home made bread!  Mmmm, Mmmm, good!!

Happy Birthday Colter

Ms. Bennett's dog, Colter, came to school for his birthday.  We had a fun party with cake and presents.  Colter showed the class how he can read some words.  He read the words "sit, down, and paw."  Colter loved his party.  So did the kids!
Happy birthday, Colter!

Colter's cake - he got a very little piece!

The Taste Test!

Our class has been studying the five senses... seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, and touching.  We learned that our brain uses those senses to find out about the world around us.  We did a taste test experiment to find out the different taste buds our tongue has.  Do you know what the four flavors are that our taste buds can taste?  Find out below during our "taste test"!
Our four samples of the different tastes:  sweet, bitter, sour, and salty.

Alex and Sophi try some salt for the salty flavor.  Did you know that salty is the only tastebud flavor that our body acutally needs to stay alive?

Cayden and Iyana try the lemons.  Oooo, that's sour!

Brenden tries the sour lemon too.

Jose puts the bitter baker's chocolate in...

... Ewww, that tastes yucky!

Last we tasted some sweet suckers.  Now those were good!
